Richard Parsons, who died today at the age of 76, was a trailblazer in the worlds of government, business, media, technology, and philanthropy. On behalf of The Rockefeller Foundation team, I send our deepest condolences to Laura and their three children. My family and I are so grateful to have had Dick in our lives.
Dick Parsons’ led a one-of-a-kind American life. His grandfather was a groundskeeper on the Rockefeller family estate. Dick, who was a tremendous public servant and private sector leader, served as trustee and later chair of The Rockefeller Foundation, tending to another Rockefeller family institution. Dick was committed to our mission, believing opportunity should be universal. During his time on the board, the Foundation undertook — and Dick cherished — several initiatives that proved transformational for people at home and abroad.
I will remember Dick’s humility. He was a friend, who cherished people and gave so generously with his time and attention. He was someone who made the many lucky to call him a friend and mentor better, smarter, and more humane. We will miss him.
